  2019 BIG SOUTH DEFENSIVE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Cody Cline, DB, Fr., Charleston Southern,...Cline led all Big South freshmen on the season with 73 tackles (48 solo) as well as per game with 6.1. He also ranked seventh in the conference in passes defended in conference play and tallied six overall. Cline was the Nov. 2 Big South Freshman of the Week after recording 11 tackles and an interception at Gardner-Webb.

Tied as the Buccaneers' second-leading tackler in 2019, Cline registered 10 stops vs. Monmouth, as well as nine stops and 1.5 tackles-for-loss in CSU's six-point loss to nationally-ranked North Carolina A&T. He tallied at least seven stops in a game five times. Cline received 14 first-place votes in winning the Defensive Freshman of the Year voting, ahead of Kennesaw State's Markeith Montgomery (eight). - Big South Football

  NOV 25 BIG SOUTH FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Charleston Southern defensive end Nick Salley (Walterboro, S.C.) collected eight total tackles (six solo) along with 2.5 tackles-for-loss, one sack and a quarterback hurry in Charleston Southern's 41-31 win over Campbell. He tied for the team lead in tackles, which included three consecutive solo stops in the third quarter. Salley's sack jump-started a Campbell 3-and-out, while his half-tackle for loss in the fourth quarter led to another Campbell punt. Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week: Justice Galloway-Velazquez (Campbell), Kareem Taylor (Kennesaw State), Tyrese Wright (Monmouth) and Colby Campbell (Presbyterian). - Big South football

  Jack Chambers threw four touchdown passes and Dennis Fisher's interception sealed the win for Charleston Southern in a 41-31 victory over Campbell in a season finale on Saturday evening. Chambers had 217 yards passing for the Buccaneers (6-6, 4-2 Big South Conference). Kendrick Bell ran for 123 yards on 22 carries. Garris Schwarting caught five passes for 124 yards and Kameron Brown had three touchdowns receiving. Charleston Southern scored on its first two drives with Chambers throwing an 11-yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Jones and a 26-yard score to Brown for a 14-0 lead. The Fighting Camels (6-5, 3-3) replied with a touchdown and the Buccaneers followed with Alex Usry's 33-yard field goal to make it 17-7 early in the second quarter. Both teams scored again before halftime and the Buccaneers led 27-14. The Fighting Camels got as close as 34-31 at the end of the third quarter but Dennis Fisher's interception of a Hajj-Malik Williams pass late in the fourth ended their comeback hopes and Chamber's final scoring throw to Brown sealed the Buc's victory.   Jack Chambers and Darius Douglas threw touchdown passes in the first quarter and Charleston Southern defeated Presbyterian 27-7 on Saturday. Chambers capped a 7-play, 74-yard drive with a 7-yard pass to Jaquan Williams. On the ensuing kickoff, Zach Hayden recovered a fumble at the Blue Hose 28. On a third-and-21, Douglas found Kaylee Brown at the goal line for a 28-yard score. Jamari Dunbar capped a second-quarter drive with a short scoring run and the Buccaneers (5-6, 3-2 Big South Conference) led 21-0 at the half. The drive was set up by an interception.

The Bucs had 243 of their 341 yards at the break while the Blue Hose had just 97, but finished with 292. Alex Usry made his third, 50-yard field goal of the season in the third quarter. His 42-yarder in the fourth quarter was a season record 17th on the year. Kendrick Bell had 20 carries for 123 yards for the Buccaneers. The defense finished with four turnovers and seven sacks. Tyler Huff and Brandon Thompson combined to go 20 for 38 for 255 yards for Presbyterian (1-10, 1-5). Huff threw two interceptions.   NOV 11 BIG SOUTH DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Charleston Southern defensive lineman Anton Williams (Marianna, Fla.) posted nine tackles (six solo) with 4.5 tackles-for-loss, 1.0 sack and a fumble recovery in the Buccaneers' 27-20 overtime win over Hampton. His sack ended a Hampton drive in the third quarter on the CSU side of the field, and he scooped up a fumble in overtime that clinched the victory for the Bucs.
